Although space loss is a common situation in children and adolescents, there are different occlusal orthodontic situations that occur concomitantly with loss. For this reason, the present study aimed to discuss maintainers pediatric dentistry. Thus, types of maintainers, their functionality, cases can should be applied, especially effects/consequences, were discussed. In methodology, literature integrative review was carried out based on periodical databases, PubMed, Google Scholar Scielo, whose time frame between years 2017 2021. results, patients prove importance, because they avoid specific problems, such as future malocclusion, for example; have numerous advantages, including great cost-benefit, due simplicity mechanical components used ease manufacture.   Keywords: Space maintainers.
